Getting found

Search engines aren’t dark magic

Google is mostly trying to figure out two things: what you do, and where you do it. Most small businesses lose because nobody ever told Google either one clearly.

On a phone, the map results take up most of the first screen. They come from your Google profile, not your website.

How it works

Three things decide whether the phone rings

When somebody searches for what you do, the results page has two halves, and then there’s what happens after the click.

1

The map results

The little map with three businesses under it, right at the top.

On a phone this is most of the first screen, and it is where “pest control near me” type searches usually end. It comes from your Google Business Profile, not your website.

What moves it

  • A complete, correct Google Business Profile
  • Real reviews, answered
  • Photos you actually took
  • The same name, address and phone everywhere online

2

The regular results

The list of websites underneath the map.

This is where your website competes. Google reads the words on your pages, so a page that names the service and the town beats a single page that tries to cover everything.

What moves it

  • A page for each service you sell
  • A page for each town you serve
  • Clear headings and plain writing
  • Pages that load fast on a phone

3

What happens after the click

Whether the person calls you or hits the back button.

Ranking is only half of it. If your number is hard to find or the site is slow, the visit is wasted. Calls matter, not positions.

What moves it

  • Phone number in easy reach on every page
  • A form that reaches you right away
  • Straight answers about what you do and where
  • Reviews visible on the site too

The work

What I actually do

No secret sauce. It’s a checklist, done properly, and then kept up.

Your Google profile

  • Claim or clean up the Google Business Profile
  • Categories, service areas and hours set correctly
  • Photos and services filled in
  • Show you a simple way to ask for reviews

Your website

  • A page per service and per town, written in plain English
  • Business details in the code so Google can read them (schema)
  • Fast pages, working links, a sitemap Google can follow
  • Your reviews pulled onto the site

Keeping it honest

  • Google Search Console set up so we can see real numbers
  • A plain-English check-in on what changed
  • New pages when you add a service or a town

All of this is built into the Local Pro package, and the care plan keeps it going. Already have a site? A search tune-up on someone else’s site starts at $750.

Timing

What the first six months look like

  1. Week 1I look up your business the way a customer would, write down where you show up now, and fix the obvious things.
  2. Weeks 2–6Service and town pages go live, the Google profile gets sorted out, and the first reviews start coming in.
  3. Months 2–6Google catches up. Rankings usually move first for the smaller towns and the specific services.
  4. OngoingNew pages as you add work, reviews kept up, and a check-in on what people are actually searching.

Straight talk

What I won’t promise you

  • Nobody can guarantee the number one spot, and anybody who does is guessing or worse.
  • It takes months, not days. Local results move slower than most people expect.
  • A brand-new business with no reviews will not outrank a twenty-year-old company overnight. It can beat them town by town.
  • I do not buy links or spin out fake pages. That works until it stops working, and then it costs you everything.
  • If ads make more sense for your situation than waiting on search, I will tell you that.

Questions

Fair questions people ask

How long before I see anything?

Small things can move in a few weeks, especially in smaller towns. Give it three to six months for the bigger searches. Reviews tend to speed everything up.

Do I need to write a blog?

Usually not. For most service businesses, solid pages for each service and town do more than a blog nobody reads. If you like writing, that is a bonus, not a requirement.

What about Google Ads?

Ads buy you the top spot as long as you keep paying. Search results keep working after you stop. Many businesses start with a small ad budget while the search side catches up.

Can you fix the site I already have?

Often, yes. I will look at it for free and tell you honestly whether it is worth fixing or worth replacing.

What if I add a service or a new town?

That is a new page. On the care plan it is usually included, and larger additions are quoted up front.

Do I own everything?

Yes. The domain, the website and the Google profile are in your name. If you ever leave, you take it all with you.

Want to know where you stand?

Tell me your business name and town. I’ll search the way your customers do, take screenshots of what I find, and walk you through it. No charge, no pitch.
